London – Cuadrilla Resources, the
only company in Britain using the process known as hydraulic
fracturing (aka “fracking”) stated on Wednesday probably is what
caused the country's tremors in April and May of this year. In its
report however it said they were the result of a mix of geology and
operation and aren't likely to happen again.
Fracking has come under fire from
environmental and health activists. Environmental actvists say it
can poison water supplies and health advocates state it has
unforeseen consequences on those who drink the water. Fracking
became more well-known in the last few years thanks to the movie
“Gasland” in which a man demonstrates how water is able to be set
on fire.
The report states if fracking did start
another tremor the strongest one would be around a 3 on the Richter Scale, meaning it would barely be felt by anyone.
Fracking as been put on holdas of May
27th after a tremor was detected outside the town of
Blackpool.
Currently five people are protesting
one of the company's rigs. Four of them attached themselves to the
machinery.
