London – Despite what high-level
executives at News Corp say, they were warned by a legal adviser
about the overwhelming evidence showing several journalists at News
of the World were hacking and using other illegal methods in an
attempt to get information.
In documents released Tuesday there are
claims phone hacking was more widely known than they told British
officials.
Michael Silverleaf, the lawyer who told
the executives in 2008, stated in the documents there was
"overwhelming evidence of the involvement of a number of senior
journalists in the illegal inquiries."
Until earlier this year News Corp.
executives said the phone hacking which lead to the now-famous
company-wide scandal was the work of one reporter. After evidence
showed the claim was more widespread and the British public became
more outraged over proof a missing 13-year-old gir's phone was
hacked, Rupert Murdoch shut down the tabloid.
